Don't feel bad. I have forgotten to close up the Muscovy twice in the last week! I close them in the pen when I go to feed the horse but then I forget to close them in their coop when I feed the cats. I do have a routine but obviously I have spring fever my own self!

I go out in the morning to see the dog wandering close to the barn and wondering why she isn't napping. She gives me that baleful glare like "You idiot! I had to stay awake all night watching for owls!" At least it isn't my new lavender pair of Muscovy but still, I seldom forget to lock up any of my birds and definitely not twice in one week! Old age is really miserable!
Is it spring yet? Is it spring yet? Is it spring yet?

I did the dumbest thing! I came home today after a REALLY long day. 8 hrs at work, 2 hrs at school, and 2 hrs driving in between the two and home. Went down to check for eggs and my coop door was propped wide open...no big deal...I just assumed DH had let them out when he got off work. NOPE. I had left the coop wide open all last night and all day today.

But luckily all my babies are accounted for. I felt so stupid! I'm so nervous about even letting them free range when I'm home, let alone leaving them out all day unattended! Sheesh...I'm just glad they're all ok!

On another note does anyone else have spring fever??? I am so ready for warm weather, gardening, and of course CHICKS! I've already got myself on a list for some gorgeous olive egger hatching eggs..

shhh don't tell my DH!

I honestly haven't had any problems with the new site other than the auction section. I agree it is awful and seems like it'd be really confusing. I did read somewhere that they hope to eventually have the auction system like it used to be, but it wasn't an option with the new platform of the site? I may be way off..not sure. I know there are some other poultry auction sites though..but I'm only really familiar with featherauction.com. It was started by the folks of Foley's Waterfowl.

Spring Fever? I've had Spring Fever since......last spring!

Gosh, miss a while and I miss a lot!
I do like the "Go to last post" and unread posts but so far nothing else is too easy on this new BYC.
I do have a auction up and it is going okay but one person PM'd me their bid. I had to explain that it needed to go below the post.

Oh hey, I want to know where to buy adult Silkies for $8?? Someone on FB said they can buy adults for $8 when I said my half grown ones were that price. So what kind of Silkie do you get for $8? Not a big deal on my part as I love my blue and black Silkie kids and was holding on to these for myself. Maybe I should price them higher than $8 as I usually sell out quicker than I like. I just almost fell over when they said they could get adults for that price and wonder where I am missing out?

Silkie Chickens brown, black, and 1 white 1 year old 8.each 864-710-2150

I found this ad in the Asheville IWANNA. It's from Seneca, SC.

I went once to look at 3 $8 silkies. She needed to rehome for health reason. Said they were show quality (was told that by person she bought them from). They were not even good pet quality. I could tell that much and I had just started looking for silkies. I did not know whether to feel sadder for her or the birds.

Maybe the brown one is just muddy.

When I googled the phone #, I came up with
HUNNICUTTS AUCTION Every Frida New HUNNICUTT'S AUCTION

Jennifer Hunnicutt's Goat Farm. 1104 Alexander Road. Seneca, SC

My local farm store sells guinea meat. They would like me to raise guineas for meat for them but I can't bring myself to do that....yet. I'm going down there tomorrow and I'll check to see what price they're selling the guinea meat for.

Someone asked me the other day if people eat guinea meat. I wasn't sure. I would have a hard time with that but that's just me! I'll be curious to hear what you find out.

I'm curious to see what they look like but I'm not going to travel 2 hours for 'a-pig-in-a-poke'.

Who knows...they might be really nice.

The fact that they have "brown" silkies is all I need to know. Clueless. And probably very poor quality. I have FREE silkie roosters and cockerals if anyone is interested, including lavender.

I doubt they are very nice at all. I have been to so many places looking at "show quality" birds with a higher price than $8 and find them to be less than breeder quality even that I seldom go look unless there are recent photographs. I am so tired of wasting my time.

I was told last night by the person that would not buy my younger Silkies for $8 that they had a SQ white Silkie roo for $10. No photos though. I hesitate to believe that I could buy a SQ roo for that price. Especially a white one! Can you imagine how it would do against Shorty Polston's (sp?) whites???? Just because a bird is beautiful to someone does not make it SQ. And just because birds are sold as SQ does not make them SQ.
The birds that I have seen that are being sold as such often have me wondering if I could sell these people bridges out in the Nevada desert. I am amazed people will sell stuff as SQ without ever knowing what the bred standard really is and what details it takes to make a bird SQ.

If I lived closer I would like to come see your extra roosters (plus all of your other chickens!), but I am about 2 1/2 hours away. If we find ourselves heading in your direction, in the near future, I'll contact you and see what your schedule is. Sometimes I can talk my husband into taking chicken road trips!
