Sounds like we were lucky...I ran around in a Tshirt all day and was WARM...my car temp said it was 62 when I went to get kids from school and with the sun it was nice here today!!

Looks like you figured it out. I haven't had a problem loading photos but that is about all I know how to do.

And was it me, or was it crazy cold today? I thought I would never get those chores done and get inside. And naturally, the birds think that just because it stays light til after 6 pm they can hang around out in the cold.
I am going to take a hot shower and get my jammies on. DD is cooking cornbread and I made a big pot of beans today. Good cold weather food. I think I will plop in front of the TV tonight. New CSI on at 10 pm. Hope I stay awake that long.....

Oh, I was doing the happy dance yesterday! One of my BC Marans laid her first egg! Not as dark as I would have liked but it is still pretty! My one Gold Laced Cochin pullet I kept this season also laid her first egg yesterday. I know this because she keeps crawling under the wire into the guinea pen and she is the only hen in there.

Our Cuckoo Marans just started laying last Saturday. Actually probably Friday. I think I found her first egg buried in the shavings in the coop today! Anyway, her eggs started a light, but definitely a terra cotta shade. They have gotten a little darker every day since. On Saturday, we had to really look to make sure it was her egg, but the shade of it gave it away. Now, there is no doubt at all!

Sounds good! You wouldn't believe (or at least I can't!) how far people drive on chicken road trips.

Lou Ann and I have a week off in two weeks. She will be in Florida the first part of it. I haven't told her yet, but if the weather will cooperate, my plan is to visit your farm again. If we are lucky, we will get to visit Amy's too. Each time we have tried to go farm-visiting, it is either cold or raining. Maybe we'll be lucky this time. Now, if Lou Ann will get on this forum, she will know my plans...

Talk about eating high on the hog! Er, Guinea....well, I know that people do eat the Guineas but we only plan to eat them like we do our extra roosters. If we have them then they will feed us. Thankfully, our freezer is usually full of meat but we still don;t care to have to take out any Guineas. They sold so well that I am not sure we will ever have to.

Amy - did you sell keets or adults? I've sold both but just wondering how you kept the adults if you were selling them. I always dread having to catch them for customers.

I hold out for hope that my BC Marans will get a little darker egg. Hopefully she lays again today and the second hen looks like she will start soon.

Joy, I have rigged up a pretty good trap for catching my guineas. I have a 10 x 10 pvc tractor that has one corner that will open and I feed them in there. When I really want to catch them I do not feed in the morning so they are pretty hungry and tend to go in better when I do feed at night. I walk up on that corner and then trap them in and close it up. The only problem is the dominant French Pearls go in and do not let the others in and mess up the trapping sometimes. But then I am struggling with the idea of getting rid of them anyway.

I want to go on a road trip and visit peoples farms! I think mine might be way more of a road trip though! I wish Lydia was older, she and I could go visiting!! We have this big old Motor Home we bought used to go out west when Lydia was 6 months old and see my family--who all live in Oregon and Washington. If I wasn't so afraid of driving that thing just think of what Lydia and I could do during the week when DH is working! Do you guys have parking for a Motor Home? I am sure there are some KOA or something up there but we have no way to tow a car so we would still have to visit with the thing and it is a boat! The funny things we think of sitting in front of the computer at 7:00 in the morning!!!
