I just found it funny that they want the babies...when she offered me Momma she asked that I give her a shot at her back if I decided to sell her...I get that no problem. She contacted me to offer her in the first place because John had asked about another one they had when I got Koda(horse)from her foster care. But they have sold off all thier goats and have been buying sheep instead. I don't get why they would want the babies now? They still have 2 pygmies for sale? All they had to do was keep her 2 more days! Of course then there is weaning! BTW...when you said band early...how early do I need to be planning this.I do want to band so I can keep him and not worry about him breeding mom or sis!! I also am thinking about "debudding?"(disbudding?)

I mainly was just seeing if I am not the only one who finds it odd!! I immediatly told her I was not planning on selling ever! They are my first born Goats!!
You could politely let her know that you will not consider selling any steers (banded billies) or does until after the mother weans them. Maybe she will get the hint that you will band the billy goats ... if ya gonna do it though, do it early :)

We don't disbud ours. Is not something we want to do, DH has mentioned it a couple of times, but thank goodness never has.

For the banding...I am thinking no later than 3-4 weeks but IDK for certain - DH does it....I probably couldn't do it without giggling...I will ask DH when he gets up in a couple of hours. We only have one left that we banded...he is one of our bottle babies from 2010 I think.

Yeah...I just went and did some research on disbudding...I cant do that...I am going to call the vet for the banding or cutting...I won't be able to do that myself either!

Poor baby boy!! Thanks for the info on a timeline...I see now I need to be on this.My dog vet(different from my farm vet) will not neuter before 6 months on a dog.I was thinking a goat had to be more obvious also!!

I know shelters do puppies and kittens early but he says unless it is a situation where it has to be done young to guarantee it is done he feels the surgery is too risky. He is great with my house pets and I love him but my farm vet will come out for my horse and will help with chickens problems! He really just does vaccines and such for all animals and at home euthanasia if needed and minor emergencies but so far he has been able to do all I need on site!

Banding is easy....no surgery needed. I think DH got the stuff at TSC.... just use these tool thingys to put a rubber bandish type thingy around the buck's thingys, then they dry up and fall off!

I know that but don't know what vet will do! I am not doing it! And still... poor boy!! LOL I even had to explain the tool to my son one day in TSC...He picked it up and asked...he is 13 so I told! The look on his face was hilarious!

A vet friend of ours had their goat accidentally kill their horse, so i'm kind of like go for it, can it be worse than circumcision?

I Love the Branches, and if you wanna add a large rock, just check some land around ya. The rock in my run actually isn't that big(but b/c they are small it looks big!!) haha I could even carry it myself. Your MFd'Uccles are Awesome! Oh and RedBug Call me "Yancy"
Oh and I love the sand in my run do you like yours?

Yancy, I do love the sand in my d'Uccles pen. It is so easy to keep the pen clean with it and it keeps their feet so nice and clean. About the rock--here in the low country there really are not any rocks, just sandy ground or swamp. I do wish we were closer to the hills where I could find some rocks, I think they would like one! Next road trip I am looking for one--DH is going to think I am nuts!

Geesh...so much to think about! and only a couple days to decide!! The disbudding is recommended for 3-7 days old!!
