I have set them after they sat on my buffet table for 4 weeks with barely being touched or turned. I assure you that a week and a half is nothing.

The ONLY time I keep up with how old eggs are that I get here at home .......... 1) I am shipping them OR 2) I am eating them.

Otherwise. I stick them in when I have room & if I think about it. I don't usually turn them til I put them in, either. I know for a fact 2 of the 5 that have hatched in the last 24 hours were left outside for 2 weeks before I remembered to bring them in off the deck. I know for another fact that the other 3 of those 5 were somewhere in the house. LOL Just kidding - they were on the floor on their side beside the fishtank stand my incubator is on. Not even in an egg carton.

I have very few issues hatching any silkies. Some of DH's black sex links do not hatch well for me.

ETA: Edited to remove a pointless comment by myself.

After the shock of finding lice on my chickens yesterday I am very happy to report that there were NONE on them tonight!

I'm going to dust them again in 10 days...then I'll keep ivermectin on hand and use that topically occasionally. Has anyone ever used Poultry Protector? I think Manna Pro makes it. It says it helps control mites, lice, etc and is all natural. I though I might give it a try.

I also was very happy to find an egg from one of my Marans pullets in the nesting box today! Along with one from my Dominique hen who hasn't layed for a while since molting. I needed a happy discovery like that after finding the creepy crawlies on my girls yesterday! Hope everyone's had a great day! I'm so happy it's the weekend even though I still have to work tomorrow!

Oh well! One day I'll finish school (for the 2nd time) and have a better schedule!

Yes, I have used Poultry Protector. Love the fragrance and I think it helped a little bit but not for a long time.

Congrats on getting eggs! The hens are really picking up now. I had to make 3 trips up the hill today with baskets of eggs. I was amazed I kept finding more and more in the nest boxes but ti was a grand surprise! I sell out of eggs much too quickly and can sure use all they will lay.

I am about to set eggs from my Lavender Muscovy pair. I ate the first 6 from them to make sure they were fertile.

I am not setting any from the black that I will be breeding with him. And in case no one knows, I did name them. Lance and Lila. I am excited about getting babies form them and already have a waiting list for the eggs.
