First hatch of 2012. One out and 4 pipped.

All orpingtons no silkies in this hatch.


I did candle the Mary Robbin's buff eggs under my broody. 5 out of 8 are developing.
I have other colors of her eggs developing in my other bator.

Susanne Congrats on all the new space and new ones on the way.

After this chicken show and next weekends NC beekeepers spring meeting, my next road trip is going to be to your place.

I have to beat Kimberly there or you won't have anything left.

Next weekends beekeepers meeting (March 9/10) is going to be a really good one and it is in Morganton.

My timing sucks sometimes. I have eggs due to hatch March 10. My dh is going to be on duty to take care of them.
That should be interesting.

I have let the temp. run a little low hoping to slow them down just a bit.

I feel ok southern bee lady. I try not to dwell on it. They say I have a pea size blood clot on the outer layer of my brain. They wanted to do a CT Venogram but my body does not do well with the dye so..... We will see. The doctors keep telling me I had to hit my head somehow. I hit my head on the chicken coop several months ago but who here has not done that.
Also I wanted to say how heartbreaking it was to see your hives destroyed by the bear. I hope you were able to recover something from the mess it made. As far as the Orps, Im so happy with them. Setting up their own coop and run now, if it will quit raining long enough. My runs never get muddy but they are starting to now. Had to put straw down in the silkie run to protect their feet. I know during the summer we will be crying for this rain so I feel guilty for complaining.

Re: National Agricultural Classification Survey
I have received a survey (manditory) from the Dept. of Ag. every year since I applied for a Farm ID #. If I forget to send it in, they call and take the survey over the phone. It is mostly about my bees but also has questions about the other things that might be on the property like fruit trees, berries, etc.
I am not sure if this is the same as the one listed above. I just know I get it every year in Dec./Jan.

See - we don't have a farm ID#. We have never gotten one of these before!

I hit my head on one of my coops about a month ago and I had a tender spot for several days. It really hurt. I could see how hitting in the right place could cause some damage. I hope they figure out how to help!
