Thanks! I will keep you in mind! I look forward to the day we get to MEET! I am planning a big cookout here for all of us BYCers the first weekend in May if all goes as planned.I wanted to do one sooner but with shows and swaps I am going to or involved in there was no way!!

Well...other than baking anything (just ask my hubby - you don't want me bringing baked goods

, unless I pick them up at Publix Bakery!) - let me know if there is something I can do to help. I am retired and a raw newbie to the chicken world, but did manage to hang onto a few skills from my pre-retired life.

IDK and I certainly do NOT want to offer bad news but I had recently gotten an adult (very young-just laying) hen and she had runny eyes and nostrils (clear like water) and had no noise breathing...seemed to breath normal with beak closed ...she was here a week and then passed...she was healthy otherwise...very nice size and heavy and ate and drank but kept to herself...laid a few eggs in one week...just was dead one day in the nest box...I did think I found mites but it would have been so few that I don't think that was her problem?!? I hope yours comes around for you!!! I still can't figure what happened to mine...

I am a nurse with one of those good gut feelings when things are not well. She showed some spunk today when I handled her but otherwise is not right. How do mites kill a bird? Pls excuse my ignorance. BTW I haven't seen her dust bathe.

on the finding the guineas nest next time do not put your hands in the nest. use a long handle spoon to rmove the eggs and i think that will work fo you at least that has been told to me from old timers and mean old timers because i am close to 68 yrs old myself

I have been told this time and again by the old timer farmers around here but I've never done it. I use my hand, pick up the eggs and mark some of them with a sharpie marker and put them back. As long as the guineas don't see me bothering their nest they keep coming back. I usually go around at dark once they've gone to roost so there's no chance in getting caught. Found a nest today! 7 more guinea eggs to go in the incubator, that makes 50 so far.

I'm not sure. We didn't get too close. They like some alone time for a few days. We'll know soon. I'm hoping for a girl! Both of our boys are fixed now and we don't need any more donkeys!

P.S. Can I start the bidding?...LOL...or are you keeping to add to the herd? jack or jenny???

No...this is at the TSC in Laurens SC...they have never had one there and I was asked to help put one together! It will be a casual thing...I am meeting with her thurs to decide on "classes" and such...like age groups or awards for funniest looking bird etc...Mainly she wants to get more people in the area interested in chickens...even if they don't buy TSC chicks(she hopes they would buy supplies) and thinks a big gathering will draw attention of the public!! We can also bring crafts and such to peddle! I am thinking it would be nice if some of us could make some baked goods to donate for sell to help the locla rescue farm also! I am working on all the details still as extras to the swap!!

Thanks...it is funny Marty asked me...she knows I am anti TSC chicks...LOL...But I do buy other things there!She said she knows I am serious about my birds and I always make people feel like they are soo much fun(which they are...duh)and I make her want more chickens everytime she sees me!

operation pond install is going well....tried the pump and it seems very rattle-y...she said it works on and off...think I will go get a new one so all work is not in vain...
