South Carolina

Okay, officially a nervous wreck again. I hate shipping birds. For the next 2 days I will do all I can to keep my mind off of my babies being in a box headed for South Dakota. Geez, and they weren't even ones I liked but still, my babies.
I am trying so hard to get my numbers down so i can help Leah with the garden this year. It is bigger than previous years except when my dad plowed and cared for it.

We have a bit more work to do to it yet but we are getting there.

WOW what a nice looking plot! Garden may be bigger but DD is bigger too

The chocolates are laying in the black barrel in the trampoline pen every day. I tell them they are good kids and I retrieve the eggs every day. I expected to fine them all over the ground but I never have found any outside of the barrel....yet.

I wasn't sure if in the spring the Guineas laid just anywhere until they felt the mothering instinct come on and then decided on a nesting area to lay and hatch their "brood".
I am just waiting for the Guineas to chase the big Jersey Giants out of that nesting spot since they lay in the same place.

Sorry Amy but I got a good chuckle out of that comment....."mothering instinct" and guineas? I don't think they really have any. They just like to sit on eggs. When the keets hatch, they run off and leave them all over the yard. At least that is my experience. And guineas are terrible about having a "dump" nest where they start to sit and brood but let other hens continue to lay so you have all different phases of incubation.

I have ducklings that are getting lost all over too. Not the Mama Duck's fault (there are 3 ducks taking care of 3 ducklings) but those ducklings get confused about who to follow around sometimes.

Amy, your garden plot is nice! We have a fenced area with raised beds. We put in cauliflower, broccoli, brussell sprouts, strawberries awhile back. With all this heat, I hope the first three grow. Got in peas, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and herbs. It's easy for me since I don't have to actually till anything. We put chicken litter on it over the winter so hopefully that will do the trick!

I have been trying to catch up on the thread. I get on for a few minutes here and there but have had so much to do around here I am still catching up. I tried posting a message a little earlier but it got lost some where.... Hum....

Yancy, I do love the chicks! They are getting so big and beautiful!

Susanna, the baby donkey is very pretty! I am so sorry about the lamb, it is hard loosing something like that. I also feel really bad for Colins and the polish chicks. I hope some make it.

Amy, I love the garden!

Samantha, wish I was going to you swap!

Patsy, how are the Dorking chicks doing? I have not seen anything on them. I love mine so much!

I know I have missed peoples post and I am sorry. I need to go to facebook and check on Jackie--does anyone know how she is doing?

Hope everyone has a wonderful day. I must get mine started--I do hear peeping in the incubator so there is a start....

Yippee, after one dose of tylan 50 my SLW has improved greatly. She was up on the perch and looking around with interest. She even let me stroke her briefly!!! I expect that she will be back to 100% after the rest of the doses. Now to wait a month before we eat her eggs [when she lays some]. What shade are a SLW's eggs?

Anyone here have some bantam amaraucauns or EE hatching eggs?

Wonderful!!! So glad to hear it. Maybe it was just a minor infection and she needed that boost.
My SLW lay a tan egg.

Amy your mealworms came today!! The kids were excited. The chickens even more so! I was a little unnerved by the moving bag in the box!! I had my son guessing what was in there.
