South Carolina

I am glad you made some more progress...we had sooo much fun helping yesterday! I spent today cutting grass and weedeating and chicken choring and horse brushing...trying to get caught up so we can enjoy easter tomorrow...have all the kids coming for our famous egg hunt! Maybe they will find some of last years eggs too! LOLI had my own egg hunt today when I found the nest of eggs from the snake scare...I saw the snake when I noticed a gal head to lay and run right back out clucking strange! Had 10 eggs behind the barn so that must be where they laid the other day also! I had only got 3 eggs then and only 2 were in the box today! Now I will have to lock them in tomorrow to get them back laying in there! For some reason the 2 snakes were both in the free rangers coop...maybe because there are no birds in there during the day?? I hope so because the cochins and amers are attached to that coop!! Maybe the snakes will leave them alone!

Oh no! Not another one! I don't see any eggs in this one but Jesse is such a brave fella for taking care of it! At least it wasn't tangled around the car seat, or his neck!
Your hen is looking to help. What a good girl! LOL

Yes, I put sulfer around the coop and have no more problems. I buy granules or powder and shake a line mostly along the back because they come from the woods. I have not ever seen one take my eggs but did lose some duck eggs last year and could only figure a snake had gotten them. It is time to put some out again.
I also put it all around my brooder room and along the top boards around the ceiling since I have had some come in from above.

Got more cleaned up today! Making progress and the Insurance adjuster should be here on Monday or Tuesday. I have lots of pix and a long list of damaged stuff plus prices.
Still gotta take some photos of the roof vents. They were smashed pretty flat, which we did not notice til today. They were put on brand spanking new last spring! Always something!

About the Sulfer....What about the free-roaming birds scratching and eating? Do you just put it where they cannot get to it? Or do they avoid it and not eat it or does it not hurt them?

The chickens won't bother with the sulfur if they are out free ranging. I put it around my duck coops, too and have never had a problem with them wanting to eat it.

Yes, where does one get sulfur?

Question: I am planning a renovation.....regarding fencing/hardware what is better/stronger to use for posts? Wood/metal t posts?

Sam, when is the Laurens thing?

PS: Happy Easter.

For strength, I'd go with wooden posts.
For temporary, paddock or semi- permanent fencing, T-Posts work well.

What are you trying to fence? And do you want to keep something in - or something OUT?
