Yancy, he sure is beautiful and I wish I could take him. I just don't have the room for another pen/flock and I know my black roos would not accept him. I hope you find someone that wants him too. As for his spurs, I use my dogs nail clippers to trim the spurs. In a pinch, we've used wire cutters too. Just watch the quick and don't trim too far back.

take a pr of pliers and grab the spur and twist back and forth and the spur will come right off.

I do like phoneman does, I take my pliers and put them near the leg and grasp firmly but not too hard as there is the soft quick under there. I hold the leg next to the spur very well and slowly work the pliers back and forth like trying to unscrew the spur. Soon you feel it loosen and you can ease it off the quick. This is pretty neat because it does leave a bit of a raw stump and they won;t get on the girls for a while because it is uncomfortable. However, it is nice and soft and won;t continue to tear up their feathers and skin for more than a week and when ti does harden again it is a lot shorter.
I have tried trimming them down but they are still hard and still tear up the girls. This way the girls have a chance to "heal" or get some respite.

If you want to see how to do it remind me when you come over next time and I will show you on one of my guys. I am sure someone has grown some back out by now. I usually do everybody right before breeding season starts.

My little duck egg needs some prayers!!! It was due to hatch LAST friday and apparently is trying to hatch right now! DH texted me at a couple hrs ago. I had completely given up on it and was about to turn the inbubator off last night and forgot. So I didn't add water last night either..AHHH I don't think the humidity is high enough and I'm stuck at work! So say some prayers that little duckie will be ok!

I hoping for good luck for your little duck

Anyone have experience with ducks/chicks pipping on the WRONG end of the egg?? My little call duckling has pipped this way. I've added water since I got home to increase the humidity. Really hoping it makes it's way out! I can hear it cheeping every once in a while

You can do it lil ducky!!!
