It was super nice talking to everyone and finally meeting many of our friends here on BYC face to face. now If I can only remember everyones real name vs. screen name I'll be okay LOL..
I just wanted to THANK everyone for such a fun day...it was nice to chat and catch up all at once and meet some new faces!! And intro some faces to each other too!! Ya'll all rock!!

Sam, thank you so much for having us all over for a nice get together. It was great seeing so many of our SC folks. for those that couldnt make it, hope you can next time. if it was to far, maybe host one in your area.

I was so sad I wasn't able to make it yesterday! We had some friends getting married and there was no way I could make it to both events! I can't wait till there's another get together so I can see everyone! On that note I am going to see Mary Bell today! I'm so excited to visit with her and see her silkies. I going so I can get a friend for my lone chick I'm raising since mama hen wouldn't accept her. Hope everyones having a great weekend so far!

We will dfinatly be doing it again...we could always plan to meet at a nice park/lake as a potluck picnick type of thing in a more central local! I am out in the "boonies" as Kimberly called it but we really enjoy it out here!

Welcome to BYC! I am fairly new myself and am anxiously awaiting some Barr Rock chicks. I thought I had a farm locally, but no such luck. I am in the midlands as well. I had no idea Tractor Supply sold chicks! Do they sex them? May have to look into that as well.

I had no idea TS had chicks either. We got a flyer in the mail one day about it. I'm not sure if they keep them year round or just around Easter. Some of the bins contained sexed females, while other bins contained a mix sex of chicks. We lucked up and the chicks were on sale for $1.50 that day. We just ordered the Rainbow Layer package from McMurray last night. I can't wait either!

I am so bad.

Welcome to all the new SC posters.

TSC I beleive only has chick days around the easter holiday. SOme of th efarm stores may still have them, but most of them only do the easter holiday.

There are many of us on BYC, that are hatching chicks year round, so maybe one of us will be able to help you out. Just make note of the area you are in, how far you may travel and what you want or are interested in. LArge Fowl (LF) or bantam.

Hope someone can help you out. Be sure to tell us about you and your flock.

To all my wonderful BYC friends, it seems that my first attempt at incubating and hatching eggs will not be a successful one. The eggs started rocking on day 21. By day 24 they had stopped rocking. I was hoping they would still hatch, but they didn't even pip. :( I don't know exactly what went wrong with the hatch, but I'm positive it was something that I done wrong due to my inexperience. I know hatching is a very delicate process that may require some trial and error. I just wish I knew what happened so I could not do it or fix it when I try again..

This was so fun and I had a blast meeting new faces I talk to here and really enjoyed just sitting around telling tales and sharing advice, knowledge, tips and so much more! I am so glad you all came out and I missed the ones that couldn't make it! There will be other times! Can't wait!!! I was worn out from all the fun! Thanks for having us all over Sam!!!

OK did you read this article ? https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/incubation-cheat-sheet
Also I think you should increase your temp. I am not an expert though. Are you using a little giant incubator? There is a great thread for how to improve your hatch success with an LG here https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/601352/little-giant-incubator-tricks So I had a similar problem--mine hatched late but I was running at the 99.5 which is suppose to be the temp according to the bator instructions but from I have learned from others it needs to be a little warmer. Anyway I only got one hatch and it was deformed. Then the second hatch I had to cull and then my last pip died inside its shell. Did you candle your eggs? I just hate that for you. When I started I just went and bought the bator and thought that was all I needed--boy did I learn a lot from that disaster! So I also found that getting another batch going was the best medicine BUT at the same time I wanted to try to do it better first so it took me about a week to figure out something different. Now we will see how my "different" works since my eggs are due to hatch a week from Tues/Wed. Of course I have also learned from these boards that even seasoned hatchers have bad hatches from time to time. I can't decide if that makes me feel better or not! On the one hand it might not be something I did--just a bad batch or circumstances(weather and temp outside effecting it or whatever) but on the other hand if the seasoned people have trouble what chance do I have, a newbie, to get it right??!! Well we will see and I will keep trying. Even during this incubation I have still been reading and I have found things I could do better/different if this one is disastrous too! Hugs though because I know you wanted to have some cute little babies running around!
