I didn't mean to shoot a hole in the deck.

It was a through and through shot. I meant a quick demise and no pain and that is what happened. Sadly, I had to keep backing up because I knew I was too close to the cat and still shot through everything. I was just extremely mad that she snatched a chick right in front of me and I have lost about 20 from those pens this spring. I know it was her as I kept seeing her there and the other cats just lay around while chicks use them as a bouncing board. But this cat would stalk them and until I saw her actually do it, I did not want to blame her. Problem solved.

glad the cat wasn't on your roof, or under your car!

1 treat all guns as fif they are loaded
2 never point a gun at anything you do not wish to destroy
3 keep your finger off of the trigger until you are ready to fire
4 be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

LOL
Been shooting all my life, took a course and still want my concealed weapons permit. I am usually more careful about what is behind my target and I knew there was dirt and no people behind the cat, did not think about the chickens. Guess I would have had chicken for dinner if one had been.

I can guarantee that I would not have shot at the cat had it been on my roof or under my truck. She was stupid enough to come up on the deck cleaning her face and licking her lips. That close, that easy and with something as powerful as the Saturday Night Special I knew she would not get the other 7 chicks and keets my hen has down there. Those will live another day, at least.

I haven't seen the LGD since I fired the revolver though. She is probably in the next county by now!

On the Muscovy, I would think one male may have to go but they should be fine until next spring breeding season. I have had only one drake in with my girls at a time but when I let them out to free range with the other ducks my Muscovy drake gets quite rough with the other drakes. And one time my Lavender Muscovy drake tried to kill my young Runner drake so I am careful with the Muscovy. The other breeds just bump around a lot and never hurt each other.

I am sorry you did not make it to the cook out! We had a blast and maybe next time you can join us with all our fun and games! The kids had fun making "burritos!"

I am glad you have not had anymore dog attacks. I just lost a chick to a cat that has been living here for a few months. I suspected she had been busting the eggs open and eating the insides and kept missing any chicks that hatched in my Silkie/Cochin shed so when she snatched the chick a while ago I felt I had had enough. There is a big hole in my deck but she won't cause any more problems. And stupid me did not even think to look and make sure there weren't any chickens under the deck when I fired. That Saturday Night Special is powerful. All chickens accounted for.

So glad your pets are happy with the move! Now you can sleep better.
I hate I missed the cook out too.. hopefully Sam has her pool up and running and we can all invade her for some cool pool time again.. hahha

Was thinking the same thing. To prevent spillage, would likely use a top on the bucket, since tractors move around. And how about algae growth... is
that ever a problem?
Yeah, I put a lid on top of the bucket. I figured it would help keep "junk" out of the waterer. As far as algae growth goes, I've only been using it for about 2 weeks now, but no algae as of yet.
