I'm such a proud chicken parent right now! Ginger laid a perfect little beige egg, her second I think, behind the feed tin this afternoon. She was a hysterical mess yesterday after we discovered the coop's first two eggs crushed on the droppings pan. She kept making worried noises and searching for a place to nest. The corner behind the tin barely has enough room for her, but she snuck back there repeatedly -- the same place where I found the egg after dinner. I've searched the coop and run at least four times today, looking for secret eggs. It's ironic that I had gone outside to feed the dogs, but my hen made me breakfast. I LOVE my nestbox-ignoring girls!

HAHA!!! Too funny! They do like to trick us! Give them a nice piece of hardwood and they roost on a twig...give them a nice cushy nest and they lay in bricks!!! Gotta love them!!! At least you found them! HAHAHAHA They certainly have a mind of their own!

I've been a little preoccupied because my husband and I got some big news a few weeks ago. I'm pregnant! I still can't believe it, but we had our first ultrasound yesterday and got to see the little baby's heartbeat. It was amazing! (Like the ultimate candling of an egg!!!) Hopefully I'll do better keeping up on here but just wanted to share my news!

Actually, he spoils them terribly! Feeds them all kinds of great food and treats and yummy veggies and fruit, I bet. Look at the chest on that little brown baby! Doves would be envious!

Yep Spoiled...Very SPOILED... they know where the french doors are and wait, and they are teaching the young ones to do the same.

And thanks Amy...I finally got a brown mutt pullet!!! So happy!
 
I am soooo tired......Spent Friday tearing down so we could start the new pen today. Needless to say we stopped working abt 30 mins ago. The only break I had was a McD run. My oldest (8yr) says. "This is moms biggest mistake."

Congrats on starting the new coop. I know it will be a vast improvement. and I just love what kids have to say about situations. if that does not make you smile... well,, you just can't smile lol
