Southern CA Swap meet-up / Funday 9/24/11

I second the hang em by the beak trick it really is pretty darn accurate. Gumbii, what age is the longest you would wait before you WOULD NOT do this.... I was told up to a few days old........???

yeah, i keep telling people the same thing... but i'm looking at my pens to see where i can stick another roo in... i ♥ my hens, but something about a handsome roo that makes me weak...

I have officially lost my mind.....

My whole flock is inside my house, enjoying cold grapes and air conditioning.

My tile floor is double lined with heavy paper, all my pop up cages are in use. Its nice to see them not panting so hard.....

Just letting you know, Gumbii, what my rooster will be expecting!!

DH doesn't come home until 4:30, so they'll get a few hours of relief before my Clorox house rescue mission begins.

Your birds are lucky! MIne are outside, no way to get them all inside. Just went and misted them again. I have 4 fans running outside since 10am and it's now 96 out there!

i only hang them on their beaks for the first two weeks if they are bantams... standard sized about 4 weeks... after that, i grab them by the head... it's real.y quick and doesn't endanger them or stress them out...

Quote:
i just grab them by the beak with my thumb and pointer finger... lift them up with my hand right under them, and if they kick out of my grip, or they just don't stop kicking/squirming, they are roosters... if they just hang there, or kick once and hang there, they are hens...

omg...

well, my birds are getting sprayed every hour or so... i'm doing laundry, so when i pass buy, it rains for a minute... i'm kind of mad because my young OEGB are going to need a bath after this... they are on the dirt... my LF cochins love it though... they sit there... since they're blue, i bet they hate the heat... poor gigantic fluffy birdies...

i threw in electrolytes in all of their waterers...

Oh what a relief it is....the sun has GONE AWAY for awhile.......Brought my seramas in the house about 2pm [should have been sooner] and the 4 LFs I turned em loose in the backyard. Beeps was panting waay to fast and hard, had me worried.......My Workshop room sounded like a jungle, was so funny.....

All are OK now, day 3 of BLAST FURNACE is on the waay...........
Hope no one loses and birdies from this heat wave........
