Southern CA Swap meet-up / Funday!

I wish I had more room, Patty. My BCM pullet from you is so lovely and sweet...her face looks like she's up to something evil, but she's the sweetest one I have. I'd love to help you out but we haven't found a house to move to yet (where I'm planning to make my chicken accommodations bigger).

Quote:
Most of the flocks are four to six hens, one roo. They range from pairs or trios, to the marans, about ten hens.

I can try to list them out by memory right now.

Olive Eggers, about five or six hens
BLRW, five hens, two should be culled. Possbly splitting it into two flocks, all splash, and some darker ones in another flock.
BBS silkies, just a few. Roo not breeding, growing out a new boy, but he is barely starting to crow.
EE's three hens, plus my turken. One EE is blue NN
Buff Orps, trio
Lav orps, selling off that flock, growing out different flock. Will know more by end of summer.
BBS orps, have a quad of blacks likely going wth me, growing out about a zillion to choose a few from to add to the stay behind group.
Ameraucanas, selling off the BBS, growing out some lavs... not ready to decide on those yet, BBS for sale, blue roo and two blue hens, one splash, occasionally throw lav from two blue parents.
Bev davis CBM. Have around ten hens. Almost all are around a year old, maybe two, couple of them are three. These are not SQ. They have flopped combs and white feather faults. They lay good though, and the eggs are very large. They are middle of the road brown, not super dark. Temperament is docile.
Javas. Shoot. No roo, just hatched three chicks, hoping one is a roo. six hens, only want eggs from four of them. Right now they are in with my Bama Chicken black orp roo.
Coronation Sussex. Probably don't want to get eggs from those, but would like some eggs from coronation hens and my sport ameraucana roo. Not sure what to do with that yet.

Tentative takers for Olive Eggers, BBS Ameraucanas and BBS Silkies. I am growing out a couple hundred or more chicks and babies too, mostly for sale, but there will be other choice birds available later on, in a couple/few months. I will put all updates on this post. Birds will be technically "available" until they are picked up. When they are picked up, it will say "Gone" after the variety above. Sorry, but I will only placing them with people who I know for a while here on BYC, or have had face to face dealings with. Newbies, please don't PM me. If you want birds, I will sell them to newbies.

Appt made for pickup of Olive Eggers. I am growing out some chicks still, and have eggs in the bator still, so I am by no means "out" of them.

Sorry that I havent been on lately. Its been a little crazy round here.

Thanks to Sue and Joey for everything and getting a second meet off the ground. I just love meeting new people that share my own interests.

For the life of me cannot remember Patty's friends name. Thanks so much for the jersey giant she is so pretty.

Thanks so much Michelle. China has laid 2 HUGE

beautiful white eggs for us. Its nice to have 2 layers now. Hopefully your new feathered friend settles in ok. As far as china goes. She ended up on the roof and I caught her in the next door neighbors front yard. I didnt have to chase her either. I just grabbed her. Clipped one wing and sent her on her way. She hasnt been naughy since. She actually has settled in quite nicely. I cant that however for the jersey giant that I got at the meet. Crazy face keep picking on her.

Below is a message from between Sue and I. Didnt feel like writing it all out again. Just wanted to give you an idea of where china is at. If you ever want to comeby at check it outfeel free.

Yes no trouble at all. Right now my setup has changed since putting up my runs last week FINALLY. My coop has been done for awhile now. Coop is 16 ft by 4 ft (my husband and I built it ourselves. Really expensive but we did it slowly.) The coop is divided into four sections as well as the runs.

China is in the first run with crazy face (EE that should lay anytime as she has been squatting for my roo), Jasmine (EE laying for aweek and a half now), Sammy (blue ameraucana roo), Louise (EE), and a jersey giant that I also got at the meet.

The second run has a mixture of lavenders eight 12 week olds and three 18 week olds.

The third run just has 2 meat chickens that I have been procrastinating doing away with. Their day will come. They are huge look like turkeys.

The fourth run has houdini (splash silkie) and her chicks 4 silkie marans (those are actually her babies from when I had my black copper marans roo cyclops, He attacked my daughter twice so I found a home for him) and 2 buff cuckoo orpingtons that hatched at the same time so she adopted them. Gotta love silkies.

Then in the garage is where the madness is. My husband and I built a very nice double brooder. In one side has 8 lav orps I think are 6 or 7 weeks old. and the other side has about 50 or 60 chicks. 7 of them are not mine. I am brooding them for someone in LA that doesnt have the time. So I said I would for free. I always try to do things for others. HAHA. Then there are 3 coronation sussex chicks, and the rest are lav orps. I think they are about 2 to 3 weeks. Soon they will be outgrowing their brooder so we are going to be building 2 more double brooders.

I still need to finish the roosts for the coop and all the nest boxes. The nest boxes are going to be the most difficult. I need 2 three nest nestboxes for each section. So there isnt anytime to dillydally around. HEHE.

Sounds like you got some project there shuizar. Ya silkies are amazing, mine has a BO chick from my BO pair before i got rid of my roo, she had two but there was an accident when i was out of town and now she has one. Its the size of her and she swears its her babie lol.

Thanks so much for the update, Shuizar! I'm glad China is laying well for you, and fitting in. It's funny, we are preparing our kids' science fair project right now, and it's about raising chicks to chickens (we live in suburbia, so this will be an unusual project for the science fair!) So we've been talking a lot about her and sorting through photos for the display. I'm thrilled to know she is in a good home and continuing to lay well.

Sounds like you've got quite the set-up. That is a massive amount of birds -- especially chicks! Are you raising them for sale, or are you planning on keeping them all for your flock? We would love to come by this summer to check it all out : )

Well half are males. So those will eventually go into the freezer. Im not selling at the moment but will toward the end of summer I think. I figured China would stop laying for a few days but NOPE. Laying like a champ.

Jferlisi:
Yep I added the two adoptees during the daytime while she was looking right at us. She didnt even blink. Shoved them underneath her with her beak. Settled back down and clucked softly to them.
