This is my first post on here. Hi! I'm Heather & I'm over in Melbourne. My city allows 5 hens...but 3 doors down a rooster crows. Whoops! Looks like the farm didn't sex that one properly. You know what, though? I much prefer the rooster to the loud motorcycle, the 11pm loud as a chainsaw mosquito spraying truck drive-by, the barking dogs, & other annoyances associated with suburban living. I'm a country girl at heart, somehow... & I've never lived on more than 1/3rd of an acre. Grew-up riding horses. My interest in local foods lead me to backyard chickening (& the fact that I finally live somewhere that allows it & we're finally not renting.) My husband is an attorney, so I can't go breaking laws. I am so proud of him & so thrilled he's letting me get a flock. I'm having a coop professionally built b/c I don't own proper saws & tools & we have a fox living in the woods behind us.
I'm the local chapter leader for the Weston A Price foundation. Hoping to do more with that in the future, once I am more settled in our new home. Hope to learn lots here from you sage chicken mommas (& poppas, though I'm guessing us social women kinda rule the roost here.)
