Here is the poor chick I hatched from a shipped egg.... It was looking so good until it's friend decided to pluck him/her like a turkey.....

Sorry... bad pics too but all I have right now...

Any hoo..... The pen the egg came from had a green male, a green female and a 7/8 spaulding female.... so I was wondering if this peachick looked more or less green. Any guess on sex???????

Nice tall bird, I hope that the birds stop picking on him, I guess they are just jealous! I don't have greens so I am no expert and if he is a spalding then probably a high %...I sort of think he is a high % spalding.

my guess very high % spalding.....greens are bad about pecking....wait for Doug he should be able to sex....thats the thing about greens females color out alot like the male ,just no train......I can't even sex them as yearlings. But I don't raise the greens.

Jen,
If it came from a mixed pen like that, you really shouldnt call it anything but a hi spalding. It can be very hard to tell a 15/16 and a pure apart. and if it had a pure male and a 7/8 hen, that's just what I'd have to call it, 15/16 spalding.
Like Deerman said, it is EXTREMELY hard to tell sex on these til they are older, if you had two, you could compare spur lenght and get a good guess, but with out one it'll be hard.
How old it it?
How long are the spurs?

Legs look good and long which is indicative of male, but hens are leggy too, thickness of them tells a lot.
Based off what my boys looked like as yearling (now at 2 where I know they are boys) I would suggest male, but they can trick you on these green birds.

I'm not Doug. But from looking at the pictures (hard to tell) but looks like a male would need better photos in sun light to help. Also like Aubrey said with it coming out of a mixed pen all it can be called is a Spalding.

Steve

I was going to just consider it a Spaulding, since I don't know it's true back ground ( who's it's momma, LOL ). I'm not much on knowing percents... heck, even colors & patterns..... Just was wondering if it looked like a decent bird ( well, after it grows it's feathers back.. hehe)

Here it is as a baby...I hatched it in about June. I was calling it Princess .... but I may have to change it to Prince...

.. I was hoping for a girl, of course, for my SP Spaulding peacock. So the hunt is on again... hehe
