Speaking of Rules......

I was reading the last few posts and thinking to myself the quote I often heard growing up, "moderation in all things"... hahaha... then I realized how that could TOTALLY be misinterpreted!

Seriously though, a few quick thoughts:

1) Descriptive subject lines are a MUST! Everyone should try to use up the total space in their subject lines with as many specific keywords related to their post as possible. This does two things: 1) It helps people know exactly what you need and what you are posting about 2) It makes it MUCH easier to do a search using the "search in subject only" tool.

2) Games, "off topic", etc: We fully support members having a good time on the forum. This is why we have a whole section devoted to "Social" threads. Yes it is important that we maintain our core purpose, to promote healthy and happy chicken raising, but we also want to continue to build a strong community where people want to keep coming back. I think that is exactly what we have here!

Now you got the mods going into their secret boxes and getting out their whips.
Don't get me wrong. It's not that I don't like a women with a whip...

Hi

Nifty, I personally think you and the Moderators do an excellent job of creating a place that folks feel as free to express their humor as they do to seek information on chickens, ducks and turkeys. In addition, someone feeling overwhelmed with life circumstances also has opportunity to solicit solice and comfort from the other forum members....and as a tribute to your site...these posts are usually the most responded to, meaning this is a really thoughtful, genuine, caring group of people. It really says alot that folks are able to make friends off an internet forum and I doubt that happens on alot of websites. I think it is also nothing short of incredible that nearly 30 forum members would be motivated to personally meet one another when the two main commonalities in their acquaintances are Backyardchickens.com and their interest in chickens/turkeys/ducks! So I definately think kudos are in order for the management of this site, great job!

I totally agree here. I hate it when I feel someone is being bullied. (even if it is a troll) I am just happy to have the choice of not clicking on a post.

I'm guilty of bumping recently. I bumped Ideal Poultry's response about their night guard light up to the front page for a few that were asking about it because I couldn't figure out how to move their link to another thread.
Guess I'll ask the mods to do it for me next time. If someone or something bothers me on this forum...and there is very little that does, I just ignore it.
I have much more important things to get uptight about.
