I haven't started the hatching thing yet, but I'm sure I'll get hooked on it over time...not sure my dh will be so thrilled about that. Guess we'll deal with that when the time comes
Oh this post has helped relieve some of my anxiety. I was just out looking at my 5 SS, one is a roo for sure but I was looking and 2 of the pullets are darker than the other two and have a greenish tint to their feathers. Your pictures have helped reassure me that maybe they are pullets after all.
Don't you just love the greenish tint when the sun shines on them? It's almsot a teal color. I just started noticing it this week. They're so beautiful!
This is a super thread and I am very glad to have run across it. I have 9 that are now 5 wks old that I'm trying to start sorting out. The ones that I have tentatively labelled boys (on the basis of bigger pinker combs, early start of wattles, and a generally chunkier more-masculine look) happen to be the ones with the most white and I was starting to doubt myself til I read this and saw others say the same thing
I am still not certain I entirely 'get' the thing about tail size/shape, but perhaps it will become more obvious as they grow. At the moment I think I have 5 that seem like pullets from color/comb/tail, 2 that I'm just sure are boys, and 2 others that I dunno. If I can't sort them out by next month I will probably put up pics to ask y'all
Pat, who is OWED a bunch of pullets by fate, lemme tell you, since my 6 straight-run campines have turned out to be 5 of them cockerels
