Speckled Sussex Hatchery Birds - Where did you get yours?

Those look great! I'm still on the waiting list for Ideal's Sussex. Their S.S. chick availability is delayed . . . again. I'm so eager to place an order for these with Ideal!
Thanks! They were sold out when I wanted them, too, but I signed up for the waiting list and a few weeks later I recieved the call and, a few days later, my chicks. Good luck!

I just placed an order with Privett for 5 but my feedstore get theirs from Ideal so I may have to pick up a couple from them for comparison. I am wondering the following about Privett birds:

Do they go broody? I want that
How many eggs a week do you get from them when they aren't broody? I currently have 6, 9 mo old pullets (a mixed flock of 2 each Delaware, Red Sex Links and Australorps) that keep us supplied with eggs so I am not overly concerned about quantity at this point but would like a general idea of what I might be able to expect.

Thanks!

Bumping up this old thread because I am curious. I am getting 5 SS from Privet at the end of April but can pick up so me ideal ones too at the feed store wondering if anyone has experience with either they are willing to share.

Thanks

I'm fond of my Ideal SS. You can see pictures of them on page 3 of this thread. They are big, pretty birds and very good layers. I only have one rooster but he is very sweet tempered to other birds and people.

I ordered my Speckled Sussex chicks recently from McMurray and they still have alot of growing to do till they are fully adults

400

These are my two SS chicks from McMurray - they are a week old and very sweet so far. Their feathers are coming in already and are very pretty colors. This is my first year raising chicks. I have 15 of different breeds, but was most excited about this breed :)

Your Speckled Sussex chicks are very pretty and mine were hatched on the 22nd of this month and are also from McMurray

Thanks for sharing. Glad you had success with McMurray and Ideal. I will go back and check page 3 for Ideal SS pix. I wanted them for their sweetness and their broodiness so am hoping both qualities come through.

Those are beautiful. your rooster is amazing looking. We have amixed breed roo right now and he is sweet with the girls and us but horrible to the peacocks. When we get a purbred roo looking for an all around sweetheart. Thanks for the info on yours.
