Recently posted about my other chicks and yall helped a lot so wanted to check what my other breed i got from tractor supply is or if they are what they say they are. I was told that they are speckled sussex and 1 really looks like it's coming into the colors of a SS. The other I'm not sure about. They both looked very similar as chicks except 1 was darker than the other. The darker one is very sketchy, by that I mean he runs when I stick my hand in or anything and secluded himself from the rest of the chicks. The lighter one is very friendly to me but kind of picks on or is very playful with all the other chicks pecking and what not. Its weird because i bought some black sex links/ black stars frim a completely different feed store in a different area. The darker one looks closer to those then the speckled sussex. Thanks for the help.

Your lighter one looks more mottled than speckled to me, but I have no idea what kind of breed that could be. With respect to gender, it could likely go either way at this point, but I'm not seeing any glaring signs of a cockerel. The darker one looks somewhat like a gold-laced wyandotte, but it has a single comb, so perhaps a barnevelder. That one looks like it may be a boy, it has pink wattles starting already.

The lighter colored one is definitely a Speckled Sussex. On the fence on gender, my Sussex got large combs early and turned decently pink as well, but are both laying hens now. The comb is big but not so big that I would say 100% male.

The darker-colored one is definitely not a Speckled Sussex. It's not mottled, it's the wrong color in both feathers and skin. Unsure on gender as well, it's getting a little pink (could have just been flushed in pictures) and it has small wattles, but without knowing the breed/mix it's difficult to say.

I think both are wait-and-sees, I'd say you'll probably know gender for sure in 2-4 weeks based on how they continue developing.

That's so weird yall because the other 3 I got from same store were supposedly barnvelders but they then said they don't look like them and aren't sure what they are. I have since determined they are blue orpingtons. Maybe they mixed the barnvelders in with the speckled sussexes lmao. I've had a feeling that the darker one may be a cockeral too, one of them occasionally makes a sound like it's trying to crow like a rooster but I can never catch witch one it is. Just had that feeling it's him though.

Here's the black sex links that I got that i think he looks very close to but not quite

I think what I read said they black sex links was created from Plymouth rocks and Rhode Island reds so probably some similarities. Either that or I'm starting to think tractor supply is horrible at naming breeds lmao!
Tractor Supply mixes chicks up all the time, and they'll move leftovers into brooders of new varieties they stock.

Black sex links are a cross between barred rock and RIRs, not partridge rocks. I'm not 100% certain yours is a partridge rock, but the resemblance is strong. I'll post an online pic of one for comparison.
