Speckled Sussex or Not?

Hey all!

My friend has gotten a couple of chicks a couple months ago. A Welsummer, Ancona, Barnevelder and a Speckled Sussex. They are progressing nicely but one of them isn't looking exactly like the breed we thought. The Speckled Sussex, Lucia.

The first picture is her at a few week old chick. And the other three are her now, at 12 weeks.

I have seen photos of others and she looks nothing like them, in fact we confuse her for the Barnevelder all the time with the exception of the small white specks. She is very cuddly and friendly, but her colour confuses us. Anyone have any ideas, is she a Speckled Sussex? Or something else?

I rarely offer an opinion on breeds, but I assure you that while pretty, she looks NOTHING like my Speckled Sussex or like any I've ever seen. Hope someone tells you what Lucia really is.

No, that's not a speckled sussex. Wrong feather pattern, wrong color legs...

Thank you both. I had a feeling that was the case, unfortunately I'm gonna have to break that in for my friend. She wants a multiflock but as she is looking so much like her other chicken, the Barnevelder. Is she possibly the same breed?

Or if anyone has any suggestions on what she is that would be great, whether she looks like a pure or not.

Definitely not speckled Sussex. Looks like maybe a Wyandotte. Check my spelling on that. Lol

She's very pretty, and definitely not a SS. Maybe Barnevelder? Look at feathersite, and the Cackle catalog for good pictures. Mystery chicks are fun!

its possible this is supposed to be a barnevelder, but the lacing is really poor if that's the case.

I don't think she is a Wyandotte, at least not pure. She doesn't have the rose comb. But does have that lacing.

And thanks Folly, I'll check them out. I am kinda excited to see how she turns out, not sure if my friend will be happy but she is already attached to her so will love her regardless.

As a chick, she looked nothing like the other Barnevelders, but looked like the Speckled Sussex. Now growing up she is looking similar to the Barnevelder with slight difference. So confusing chick indeed
