Hi there. I have been following this site for a couple of years now, every since we adopted my cousin's chickens and started a flock of our own. We bought some Speckled Sussex babies over the internet and some of what we thought were White Rock hens from a local supply store. The Rocks actually turned out to be Silkie mix and had a rooster with them. The rooster has now mated with our Sussex hens to produce my latest batches from Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Attached is a picture of my sweet Lila (from the Thanksgiving batch) and I cannot tell if she is a roo or a hen. She is very nurturing, but she is also very quick to buck up to the white silky roos in her pen with her, who hatched in the incubator at the same time. Any ideas? We are also looking to find homes for our extra roos, so I would love ideas on where to do that as well. We want them to go to good homes. Unfortunately, our Silkie roo Ralph is not friendly to other roos at all.
