Speckled Sussex?

Pics
If she eats eggs, I think there are suggestions on BYC on how to stop that - as I recall, it involves blowing out an egg and refilling it with salt or another substance that would taste bad to a hen.

I just came in from my coop - I just love my SS. One was nestled into some leaves in a woodsy spot with the golden light filtering through and flickering on her. It was a beautiful sight. The speckled pattern on the dark feathers almost made her disappear from view. (Maybe there is an egg under her - I will have to monitor so if there is an egg, I get it before an animal gets it. I didn't want to disturb her when I was out there - just wanted to admire her.)

Finally, a SPECKLED Sussex thread!

bumping this back to the top - do any of your SS girls lay through the winter? i think mine might have quit but can't be certain.

I think a couple of mine are laying still, judging by the color of the eggs I am getting. Most of my hens seemed to have slacked off - or else they are laying in secret somewhere other than the nesting boxes!

Everyone is laying at my place EXCEPT the marans. . . .

I am still trying to locate some show quality speckled sussex on the East coast of the US. . . .
I have sent a couple of snail mail letters out, so we will see what happens.

Also, did an interlibrary loan on the APA standards.
I was hoping we could get some pics of some nice stock posted on here.

I have a chicken show to go to next month. There weren't any there last year.
I hope there will be this time.
IF there are, I'll snap some pics and post them on here.

I can tell you that I am liking their egg production a lot more than my marans.
I was warned that their egg was smallish. However, both of my girls are laying a decent size egg.

She is my little favorite. She walks with me whereever I go. . . . Like a feathered puppy

Awww that's good. Maybe it was just the rubbery texture that made her eat it. Yummy jello lol.

I really like my SS girls too. They are so chatty. I almost can't tell the two apart until I get a good look at them but if one follows me around and jabber jabbers alot I know its Maya.
