Just 'suscribed' to this thread to keep checking back. BEAUTIFUL!!

Wow, that is gorgeous! What kind of needle are you using to go through the suede? It would have to be skinny enough for the beads to fit through as well. In any event, it's a stunning effect.

AngieChick it is a size 13/0 beading neddle 2 1/4" long. Trust me....I have a magnifying glass that I use as the time goes on to see the eye because it is tiny!

I am struggling today with his beak and face area...it just is not coming out the way I want so I keep re-doing it. *sigh* there is so much detail around the beak where the feathers and the red meet...plus I am not completely happy with the bead colors that came for the beak.

*walks back to chair muttering "it will be right this time" *

Maybe leave that are until you feel ready to deal with it? That would seem to be the hardest part, so maybe working on more of his feathers first until you are feeling more up to his beak?

Yes that is what I am finally doing...I am working from the comb down around the eye and such.

I love beading on deer, elk, moose and buffalo hide.

After seeing your work I had to remind myself that I am in the midst of learning tapestry weaving (which is really hard, for the record) and the last thing I need to do is dive into a new hobby. But, your gorgeous work is going to force me to experiment later. It's now next on my list of things I must learn how to do.

I love weaving. I'm trying to learn tapestry techniques for rug weaving, actually. So, it will be a morphing of techniques. I have some nice Romney wool to dye and spin up for it. One of the first gifts DH gave me was a little bead loom he made for me. I've had it for 17 years now and every time he sees it he says "you still have that thing?". Goofy man, I'll have it forever.

That is funny...I have and use both of the looms my DH has made for me. I did purchase a larger one that is also handmade that I use for wide pieces like Loom necklaces and so forth. It measure 12 x 18...good size for tabletop or lap when watching TV.

I have always wanted to learn to spin but have never had the opportunity.
