You know you can quilt buckskin - well doe skin too - we use both. I have a quilt made of deer skin with fox tails for fringe. Hand embroidered indian princess in the middle of a dream catcher. It is awesome. We gave it to my MIL for her b-day a couple years ago but I can take pics of it when I am there.

And I used horse hair for the indian girls hair - Horse hair makes great embroidery thread

Just came across this post and your work is extremely beautiful. As someone who makes beaded purses like the one ladies carried in 40's (knitted using size 0000 needles) I can truly appreciate the time and effort that goes into making something like this. It is definitely heirloom quality and Speckled Hen is a very lucky person to have such a beautiful gift bestowed on her. Can't wait to see the final piece.

Thank you. I bead at night while watching TV and during the day for an hour or so in between chicken, duck, gardening and housework duties. LOL I guess I just make the time.

Yesterday I saw the pics on 35 and 6. Wow!!! I am always amazed at other peoples artistic abilities and patience. You have both in abundance.

Thank you, it helps when you really enjoy what you are doing.

Oh yes, I have made several large blanket/quilts that were backed with braintan deer and buffalo. My mothers I think it my favorite of the two...

This is Coyote fur, this is a oversized queen size

This one is Blue Fox Fur, this is an king size

This Blue Fox is going to be a shoulder bag when I find the time to work on that project...the badger is for my arrow quiver

This wolverine took me 8 years to find and was pricey but it is to replace an old family heirloom that was stolen. My great-grandfather's was taken off my wall years ago when my home was broken into so this guy will be split and done very similarly with some of his personal items to grandfather's and go on the wall.

I have only worked with deerskin and fox skin but I have always wanted to do something with buffalo hide.

I love your talent - it is right up my creek -

Such beautiful work - You would love my FIL - he is a very talented with making things exactly like the indians did. They have indian in their side of the family too, closer than my side. Mine is 5 generations off and his is only 2. The best ways of life were theirs and their work is uncomparable to todays style IMO So I am LOVIN' YOU!

I can't wait to take a pic of my quilt I mentioned and show you now! LOL

I hope to get half as good as you on the beadwork one day! Can't wait to see Speckledhens finished pic!

As soon as I take it off the frame, run the clay ball over to clean oil spots (gggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) and hang it to dry I will take a pic of it. Then once I get started with the fur, wrapping, crow beads and such I will take more pics. Hopefully later today a new pic will get posted.

I would love to see your quilt. That coyote one was made for my mother and the blue fox for my sister (a wedding gift).

Woot the beading on the Suedenator is done. Tada But still work to do to get the project finished. Whew. But here he is finished on his deer hide.

(he is not lopsided it is the way the hide is hanging and waving in the breeze) hehehe thought I'd better say that to let you know
