Hey Cyn (and everyone else) lol Sorry it's so long, but I have to tell the story or you won't understand.

Remember Whitney, my white ameraucana pullet who I raised up with Buddy, my buff orp cockerel? Here they are...

Ok, well we alternate free ranging days and being the buff orps can't fly out of their run (because they're a bunch of fatties

), it is not covered. Well, Whitney has decided every time for the last week or so that she needs to be out on the EE "free range day", so off she flies. Boy is she a good flyer. Well, Buddy cries for her all day and she is driving me crazy trying to get her back in cuz she's a little wacko and quite the flighty girl.

DD and I decided tonight she is moving into the EE pen, finally. My 10 year old dd got her off the Orp roost tonight and placed her on the roost in the EE pen. They are in for a surprise tomorrow and she's going to finally meet her new man. Here are her new roomies, for those of you who don't know.

Oreo, my EE roo:

Well, the reason I am writing is because I need your strength to keep her there. I feel bad for her and Buddy, but I know this is her home and the best place for her to keep her out of trouble and out of the hawk's view (she stands out like a sore thumb with that bright white coat of hers). So she is now in the EE pen which has a covered run and where she will take some punishment..they're not easy going on newcomers, but I am hoping Oreo will get her into the flock as he seems to like her (tried to catch her today to mate during her great escape). Please tell me everyone will be ok, cuz she is so special to me and I don't want them to be mean to her. You know, now that I think about it she is kinda crazy like them, so maybe she'll fit right in. I can only hope.

Oh, Jody, I feel your pain. When it was time to take my Blue Orp pullet, Skye, out of Hawkeye's flock because she was approaching 18 weeks and he was starting to notice her, I had the hardest time. She didn't want to go in with Suede and the two Brahma girls and Velvet gave her the hardest time. That Skye flew over a 5 ft gate several times in desperation till I finally clipped both her wings till she could get too large to fly out. She hated it in there with the other Blue Orps-she wanted in with the Ameraucanas or with Hawkeye, either one, because some of her age group were the Ameraucanas and a couple were Barred Rocks. Finally, after weeks and weeks, she seems resigned to being a Blue Orp, but it was so hard to see her upset. I'm sure Whitney will adjust, but you may have to turn away from her or you'll really feel sorry for her and pull her back out.

Fluffy - thanks! Oreo is my sweetheart, pretty boy roo. Quite the gentleman to his ladies, I must say.

Justusnak - thanks for your support.

Cyn - I knew you'd understand what I'm going thru. I think I'll avoid that pen tomorrow and have dh check in on them and only tell me the good news. I'm really worried tho. I bet Buddy will stand there looking at her all day tomorrow while he's out ranging and she's stuck in a flight pen.

Tough love is hard but it's for the best. I have a solid white EE and she does stick out like a sore thumb as well. I had a solid white cockerel as well that I culled...wish I'd had the room to keep him he was soooooo pretty!!

Oreo is very pretty , reminds me a lot of my Salmon Faverolle in coloration. I imagine they will throw awesome chickies.

Well, I haven't gone out there yet, but DH tells me they are not being rough on her..she's just scared. But I am so sad for her and Buddy..just look at them. They NEED each other.

It is sorta sad lookin at that last pic. I know I'd cave and let them have each other... true love is hard to find...lol, even for chickens I imagine.

Good luck

I know..poor Buddy doesn't even care about all of those orpie hens he has. He wants his Whitney back. He paced that run for over an hour and then laid down to watch over her.

btw..when he was pacing, Oreo wanted nothing to do with it and knew he meant business. Oreo and the flock went in the house to hide. LOL

I know Oreo will be good to her..she just has to learn to trust him. And I'm hoping we can keep her contained better on her 'in' days. It will be a LONG week of inside until she knows this is her home now.
