I know hybrids are mixed breeds... But I'm making this thread anyway.
I was looking for a thread for sussex chickens, or just hybrids all together, but I couldn't find one so I decided to make one!

All sussex/hybrid lovers and/or owners, enjoy this thread!

And PURE or HYBRID sussexs are welcome!!!

I used to think hybrid chickens were simplistic and a bit skittish. I thought they were alright, just not good pets. Some hybrids I saw were beautiful, but I never really wanted one. In May, I made a pact with a friend (more like my sister's friend) that if one of her 2 older chickens passed away, I would adopt the lonely one. I had no idea what breeds she kept, but I agreed.

On the 2nd of June 2022, I was contacted by them that one of their chickens had died and left one lonely. They dropped the chicken off and I was amazed by her size and beauty. She was a stunning silver sussex (aka Magpie) chicken. She is my largest chicken (shes standard size), my only hybrid and my oldest hen (3 years).

Katie settled in quickly, and she is docile and sweet, sweeter than most of my silkies. And she lays almost every day. I love her to bits!

Some questions:

  1. Did you like hybrids before you got them?
  2. Why/why not?
  3. When did you get your first one?
  4. (if you said you didn't like them to start with, why did you get one?)
  5. What do you think about them now?
  6. What's good/bad about them?
