"Spendin' Money?" What do you do??

well. I have the fudge and ice cream sauce as a side "business"
But I am adding some items and may take the business up a notch and change the name etc. Or keep them separate and just link them to each other. My mom said she thinks I should use my "God given talents" to make some money for myself and my "hobbies" So I am going to try.

As far as saving money. I havent had a haircut in over a year now. Luckily I can do my husbands hair and if really pushed can do my daughters.
I refuse to buy more clothes til I loose more weight.

Do you have a storefront, or ??

We have DSL instead of cable internet (there really isn't much of a difference; it's on all the time just like the cable internet and you don't notice a speed difference) and don't have cable TV. We watch movies, play video games and use the Internet instead (when we're actually indoors).

I stock up during sales and use coupons. In Michigan, we have a 10-cent bottle return for all carbonated beverages, so if I see a random pop can (yes, *pop* -- this is Michigan!) lying beside the road while I'm out on a bike ride, I'll pick it up.

I like "junking," so I will buy things at thrift stores, but I'm not thrifty enough that I will do all my shopping there.

I have a Saturn Vue that gets decent mileage, but I haven't been driving as much since I'm a teacher and am home for the summer.

Luckily, in Michigan, the Great Lakes are never too far away, so investing in a state park sticker (~$30) for the year is an awesome solution to vacations -- day trips to the beach and lots of camping! We were planning to go to Toronto this summer but decided not to, and instead are adding to our savings.

I must say, though, that I am glad that my husband and I both invested in college educations before we got married. On dual salary income, we aren't hurting as bad as some folks are. I grew up in a poorer family and I know what it's like to be on hard times. My grandma used to bring us bags of thrift store clothes so we'd have a variety of things to wear. We got a few new things at the beginning of each school year, but that was it.

One of the best things you can do right now if you have children in school is make that their #1 priority -- reading during the summer (get a library card or trade books with friends, studying each night during school and staying in touch with their teachers!). I am so, so GLAD my parents pushed me to be successful in school because it has made my life a lot less miserable than it could have been.

Since, DH and I belong to the DINK (dual-income-no-kids) group, we havnt had to curb too much spending yet. Since its 45 miles to a movie theater we havn't been to a movie since we got married 3yrs ago. Our shopping trips out of town (75miles one way) are larger and farther apart. We try to stock up when we do go because groceries are getting higher and higher locally. I still try to support the small town grocery store tho. I cancelled HBO on our dish. I dont mow the yard as often as I did last year. I only have 1/2 mile to work so gas hasn't bothered "me" much, but its taking quite a chunk out of the farm income. Turning the thermostat higher this year.

what an awesome bunch you all are. We're doing most of the same things as everyone else has listed, plus we hang out in the back yard around 8 or 8:30, after everyone's gone home to roost, but before the coop light goes off. The show through the coop's back window, as everyone jockeys for roosts, flies up to the rafters, falls down, etc., is so amusing that we don't even need t.v., which we do not have.

We call that window the Chicken Channel, and it's on every night.

best.

I stay away from swops - cause I know its gonna cost $$ to mail out my side.

I work at a paying job, AND take care of my kids at the same time. (just lucky I guess)

I haven't bought any "fancy" clothing for YEARS. Shorts, T-shirts, sweatpants etc. do just fine.

I cut my own hair, and my whole family's hair as well.

I can't cut out manicures and pedicures etc..... cause I never got em in the first place.

the only junk food coming into my house is popcorn that we air pop...snacks are outta control.

i bake instead of buy.

make meals that the l.o.'s make a nice different meal the next day

hubby drives my 73 VW Super Beetle to work to save gas bucks...no air...he's a sweaty monkey when he gets home, but i just made the home made laundry detergent, so it's all good!

cut out kids allowances, stretch the hair cuts and got CHICKENS of course!

We have cut back alot. My husband owns his own business and the fuel costs for it are astronomical!! We eat out less and when we do - no appitizers, desserts or anything but water. If we do go out, we will combine as many errands as possible for that one trip. I try to make menus for each week and stick to my list. I make sure my clothes washer and dishwasher run only a full load and use a clothesline. We increased the temp. in our house by 2-3 degrees. We have a garden and are freezing and canning as much as possible. I clip coupons, shop sales and buy in bulk. We buy alot more store brands than we used to. I color my own hair and don't get manicures or pedicures (the veggies don't mind bad cuticles). My husband and I are both pretty handy so we don't hire anything out (mowing, painting, carpentry, etc.)
