Will they find the spilled feed if it's the same color as the sand underneath it? I feed mine crumbles using a hanging galvanized steel feeder. I just raised it a bit hoping this will help. I thought they were going through a lot a feed, then I took a closer look at the "sand" below. There's SO much feed on the ground.

I'm only going to let the feeder remain empty for a day. I'm too much of a softy to go beyond that.

I use shavings, and they can distinguish that from the food. I also throw some BOSS on the floor by the spilled food, that got them under there, and they continued picking up the food after they had eaten the BOSS.
