Spilt h2o in incubator help!!!!

Ah! Well, if you have no more due to hatch right now, then you could candle to check them. In ones that are growing you should see a nice network of veins showing. However, they do get darker as the chick grows to fill more of the shell. But you should still be able to see veins at the edges of the air cell if your light is bright enough. Here is a link to a thread that has some great info and candling progression pics so you know what to look for.

Sooooo cute when they find their curiosity.

That thread is so helpful!!!!! Thank you so much for the link! I candled all of them, and so far so good. Three are pores, but the little guy that hatched was from a really poress egg, so im thinking maybe they will be ok. He is so cute, now he is just sitting there talking to his feet and cocking his head

So happy I could share it with someone else. I refer to it a lot. It has been invaluable. Porous eggs can hatch. I have 4 RIR/Black Australorp chicks that can attest to that!

They might just need a little different conditions in the bator to maximize hatchability. Because the porosity of the shell allows moisture to evaporate from it more quickly, they often need slightly higher humidity during incubation than thicker shelled eggs.

I moved them closer to the water, so they will get more humidity. Thank you so much for all of your help, it has been invaluable!

glad some others stepped in, i have satelite internet and it is messing up.

over the next couple of days watch for manure to build up on their butts. if you see it add a little sugar or sav-a-chick if you have it to the water, about a teaspoon per quart works. make sure to keep the butts clean.
