Spinach Problem

Check out what this link says about feeding hen spinach. I wonder whether feeding my hen spinach caused her egg to get stuck?!:

Would chard be just as bad for her diet; does anyone know???

I wouldn't feed laying hens tons of spinach or chard everyday, but occasionally, cooked and drained wouldn't hurt. Cooking and draining leaches a good deal of the oxalic acid (which blocks calcium absorption. if I recall correctly. I feed my girls a variety of greens from the produce sections waste. There are few green blades of grass anywhere on my land. The drought has it tightly in its clutches.

Huh. I've never heard that. I guess it's something to watch out for.

I collect a banana box of produce from my local grocer evey monday. Made a deal with the produce mgr. He gives me a box of scraps each week and he gets eggs... when they start laying!!!

When I was feeding spinach daily I ended up having a soft egg. I still give spinach on occasion as well as romaine and cabbage but I give everything sparlngly.

I gave my hens some spinach, I think one over ate to much as a few days later her crop was like a water balloon, Iv managed to get the fluid out of her but I'm sure I can still feel a soft mass in her crop, is there anything I can give her to help brake it down? She's have apple cider vinegar and life guard in water!
