Spirit - the amazing grey dewlap toulouse gander!

I have some not so good news aboout one of my Sebastopols. I went out this afternoon to change waters and I had emptyed one of the heated buckets. Then when I went over to the next pen I found my beautiful Buff smooth breasted girl dead with her mouth on the coil of the water bucket.

I was in shock because have never had one do that before. Nutmeg had an awful habbit of chewing on twigs and she picked the wrong thing to chew on. She pulled it down and was standing in a little bit of water just enough to shock her to death.

I am just totall sick about it. It is hard to keep these kids out of getting into trouble. I have never in 5 years had this happen before.

I was soooo thrilled to have a Solid Buff female for the up coming breeding season 2013. It just makes me sick to my stomach. I love Buffs so much and this is the 2 nd one I have lost. One I got from D. Holderread and two months after I got her she just died while sleeping. Now my Nutmeg kills herself with the cord on the heating bucket.

Thank you on the hugs for my mom and son.

Oh my gosh that is so sad, are you saying the cord was plugged in? I need to understand this better because i use these buckets. I put Gorilla taped where the 2 ends meet. but the cords are just hanging with the coil part exposed. So sorry RURU that is heart breaking.

Ruru, oh no!!!!

I was going to post a comment on the sebbie thread the other day because I loved the pic you just posted of her. I'm so sorry!!!

Miss Lydia Nutmeg had her mouth on the coil part and yes it was plugged in! She was standing in a little water from the snow melted in the pen and she was chewing on the cord with the wire coil around it. As I said have heated buckets for 5 years now and this never happend to our sebbies before. Nutmeg was a very bad chewer she just picked the wrong cord to chew on.
She had went into a different pen then she stays in. Pulled the cord down and had her mouth on it and her legs flew staright back as if she was knocked right off of them.

J it was such a shock to me because when I let her out she was so excited to be coming out to play this morning. I just hate to lose any of my babies. I contacted the person I got her from to let her know what Nutmeg had done to herself. She called me and we talked for a good while. She told me her sister and another one she has are really bad chewers. She told me that Nutmeg had chewed there really bad.
I am just so upset right now........... I have tried for 5 years now to get buffs here and just could not find them. Now when I find them I have lost them to something strange each time.....??????

So sorry for your loss. Hubby was afraid of this happening to our so our cords go straight out of the dog run fence that is covered by chicken wire the lower 2 feet then tied up behind their houses so they can't be reached by the birds.

none of your other geese chew on cords.

No, psue none of the other geese touch the part of the cord she chewed on.... Have had those buckets for several years. We took that bucket out of the pen and will not use it as heated anymore just water and dump it. She was a big chewer of sticks, trees, bushes anything she could get her mouth on. My geese chew for sure but usually twigs, my bushes the lawn chairs. Now I know they do wire covered cords.

RURU, I am so sorry to here of you loss. It is never easy to loose something you have tried to get and then finnally do.

We had a wonderful day, he was able to get a 3 hr pass so we did some shopping and had a wonderful dinner from Olive Garden but we ate in the car do to them serving alchohl (spelling wrong). We then went back and did some bowling. We had a great time.
