Spirit - the amazing grey dewlap toulouse gander!

Well after I got her moved and did another check on the nest in the dog house I found another 3 so now that makes 7:eek:. Only 1 wasn't cracked from freezing so I put that one back in her nest. I am so eggsited that I can't wait for gosslings:celebrate. I am gonna let her hatch some out. I have never had gosslings so now I can't wait!!:weee

Triplell, awesome news on finding so many eggs. I would think that unless you collect and incubate them yourself, they will freeze before she decides to go broody. I am looking forward to hatching more goslings, but not for another couple of months.

Yes, I'd definately hold off a few week, if you keep taking them, she'll keep laying every other day (they, not she) for a month or two at least.

Waterfowl eggs make great quiche!! 2 huge eggs or 3 medium ones or 6-8 chicken eggs, 1/2 cup milk, hand full of cheese, and meat of choice (if desured(, a few herbs (or salt and pepper )then mix and put into a pie crust, bake 375 for 45-60 minutes.....

Okay Marty now I have to go eat breakfast, you have made me hungry.

LOL It should, quiche is delicious. Did I mention you should stir the mixture before baking? If pie seems empty, add more veggies, meat, cheese, or eggs. (Oh, and I add 1/2 cup of milk, guess I'd better go edit my post)

Yum! I can't wait for my geese to start laying.... Or maybe I can as I do not have my place set up for breeding yet. Hubby and I are knee deep in discussions about how to best go about it. I am not sure how many possible breeders I have because most are juveniles, and from what I understand, may not even produce fertile eggs in their first year. I know a breeder who is also a dvm that got a dewlap gosling pair from holderread 2 years ago, that did not produce last spring as 1yo pair. I don't know if that would apply to the Africans, though.

From what I have read, according to holderread, any babies produced by a first year couple are considered bonus babies. But what if the gander is a 2yo and the goose is a 1yo (like paulla's buff or Marty having Dude as her only adult gander dewlap)? Or what if the gander is 1yo, but the goose is 2yo (like 3 of my dewlap pairs)? If both goose and gander need to be 2yo to make babies, I may only have one pair (or trio) to separate out.

J i would rather be knee deep in discussions than in other possible scenarios
