Spirit - the amazing grey dewlap toulouse gander!

Thanks so much!

Ruru, I agree. Seems unfair after everything he went through last winter. At least he is overall quite content and comfy since 2nd procedure. I just don't want to wait and see if he declines further before bringing him back into clinic. By the way, Dr. Folland is not a new vet. Dr. Folland is Scott's partner and has been around filling in for Scott since day one. Plus, Scott has been there by phone to consult and support. They are both wonderful men and care deeply about Spirit.

Miss chatting with you! Hope all is well with the nasty storm hitting you. I have been thinking of you and your loved ones.

I am hoping that this infection and him not being feeling his best does not get him down. That is the hard part of this when treating for infection. You pray the bird does not give up on you.... Spirit has my prayers...

I have happy news... Spirit is doing much better than I thought. The vet was super pleased to see how well his foot is healing. He had a little piece like a burr, which the vet removed, but felt that the main issue was that Spirit has something like a bed sore on his foot from standing nonstop since the 2nd procedure. He cut a hole in the molded bootie to eliminate any pressure on location and voila, Spirit is good as new. He said Spirit may need a permanent shoe, but he thought he could design one pretty easily. For now, leave current shoe on for one week, then begin having short periods of time going barefoot to see if sores redevelop. :D

J, I am so glad to hear the good news for Spirit. How wonderful he is healing up now finally and hope he keeps it up. He is such an awesome goose and such a fighter. That poor boy has been dished out some awful things to deal with since a gosling. Both you and Spirit have just worked so hard with each other!

Thanks!!! Spirit is a remarkable bird and very special to me. It's a relief to see him getting around, even if a bit gimpy. He looks pretty content overall, living with his girlfriend in the spare bedroom for the rest of winter. What I find amazing is how trusting and affectionate he still is with me, despite the repeated trips to the vet, multiple procedures, and all the aftercare including 2x daily injections, etc. It makes it all worth it!
