Spirochetes? Not emergency, but a serious question

Thank you all SO much !!!

This is exactly the kind of information I needed, and I thank you for your kind words as well.

I will call the vet and ask about having a fecal sample tested. I'm glad to know the chickens are not a likely cause. The puppy lives in a home surrounded by woods that DOES have visiting wildlife and a creek running alongside, although the pup stays inside most of the time.

My chickens all appear healthy ... nice and plump, active, clear eyes, shiny feathers, and good layers. I will have some testing done to make sure.

And I have a number of pairs of shoes just for the backyard that I clean when I leave the yard and wash if they get dirty. I want to get some large rubber boots to slip on over shoes though. We never go out there barefoot and always wash our hands immediately when we come inside. My daughter does forget on rare occasions and wears her regular shoes out there though.

Funny, I know people who insist everyone change shoes before visiting their chickens ... for the sake of keeping the CHICKENS healthy. From what I am seeing, it is much more likely for the pup to transmit spirochetes to the chickens than vice-versa.

Thank you all again so much for your help. I've been too busy working to read or post on here much lately, but I knew you all would come through. Thanks again!

I work at a petshop and if I work with the birds, I immediately change all of my clothes before I work with my chickens.
I don't wear my "work"shoes outside either and wash my hands too.

Good luck GoodEgg. Truth will always prevail.
