Spitzhaubens

You definitely have one male. The other is still up in the air. You could still have a pair. It could be an early developing female who's dropped her wattles a little. Spitzies can sometimes be tricky. Kinda like silkies, but not THAT bad. I'll cross my fingers and hope it is a she!
I got some hatching eggs that were supposed to be either pure Ameraucana or Ameraucana x Legbar. When two hatched out with dark skin, feathered legs and 5 toes, I knew something was amiss. Turns out the breeder’s Silkie rooster got into the breeding pen. The husband saw it but didn’t think it had bred anything because the intended rooster was keeping it away so he didn’t even tell her. So now I’ve got two Silkie crosses and I have no idea where to start guessing. I just decided not to stew over it until I see saddle feathers! 😆

My hen "Satellite" laid her first egg today. As far as I know anyway. She seemed comfortable and like she knew what she was doing as she sat it the nest box.

Update: 14.5 weeks. First four are of the one that is still in question, last two pics are of the one that looks to be a cockerel for the sake of comparison. He’s getting to have a red comb, not sure how well it shows in the pictures. I don’t have a good front picture that shows the comb on the undecided one, but I haven’t seen any reddening.

I have 10 more Spitzhaubens ordered for next year. Five gold spangled and five chamois. I like my silver spangled.

The girls like to get up on the chair with me when I sit outside with the flock. One of the roosters started kicking at me a few times. Cought him mid air and well held him for about hr or two as I did chores. He keeps a respectful distance now.:p

Where are you ordering them from?

Cackle Hatchery. I got the silver spangles from there.
Cool. I didn’t know they had the chamois. Maybe I can talk my friend into getting some.

To
@homeschoolin momma and I have been swapping Spitzhaubens for years. (How we met). It was clear they’re not a breed that I could keep in a neighborhood, so she keeps the flock and breeds them. I just like to hatch them. My son is obsessed with Spitzhaubens. He likes how they jump up in laps and follow him. He would keep them all if he could. Who knows, we may have more Spitzes here at the moment than at @homeschoolin momma ’s farm
