Ill add some pics of my current five this weekend. Being that they are a hatchery stock they might not be perfect.

I have one boy out of the three Spitz males I have that is kicking at me. Well out of the nine total roosters I ended up with in that order. He is now tagged for sale or soup. The other two Spitz males are kinda chicken ... hiding with the cats when the one very feisty Phoenix rooster decides they need to be chased off. He is also tagged for sale.

Anyway, pics this weekend.

Here is our AS. He’s a little over a year. I call him a ‘semi-jerk’.

16 weeks. Both cockerel or a pair? I still can’t tell. All the head shots are of the lighter one whose gender is in question.

Edited to clarify the pictures, as they didn’t upload in the order I hoped. The picture inside the coop with my daughter feeding is the darker one which is a cockerel.

17 weeks. Still a pair? I’m still not seeing any signs of spiky crest feathers, nor saddle feathers. The hackle feathers on both are still very rounded - I know the pictures don’t necessarily look that way, but the white spangles are making them look pointy. They’re remaining shorter too, not falling over the shoulders like what I’d expect to see on a male. Also, all of the pictures I’ve seen of chamois Spitz roosters have the buff coloring on their head and hackle feathers. When do those changes generally happen?

18 weeks plus one day. The darker one is getting a redder comb and has been checking out the nesting boxes lately. I finally got a decent picture of the darker one’s (the cockerel?) comb. It’s mostly hidden by crest feathers but not tiny anymore. Still no sign of pointy feathers where I’d expect to see them - crest and hackle feathers are unchanged, nothing coming in on the saddle. Still really confused with the darker one, but I think the smaller, lighter colored one is a pullet.

You should have saddle feathers by now. This one must be a well and early developed female. Especially checking out nest boxes.
