Splash Ameraucanas ~ Pullets or Cockerels? Updated pictures.

Looks like it could be a roo because of the tail (looks like saddle feathers are coming in), however keep in mind I know nothing.
I'm having the same dilema with a 9 week old bird. The one thing I have learned about sexing chickens is that even if someone says with the best of intentions they are sure something is a roo or pullet they can always be wrong. especially when just looking at a picture of a young bird. Here is the rule that I just decided I am going to follow. and when I say I just decided I mean I just decided now.

When someone tells me my chicken is a pullet I'm going to believe them and go along with it 100% unless the pullet crows.

When someone tells me my chicken is a roo I'm going to believe them and go along with it 100% but I'm not going to make any decision about the bird until it crows or lays an egg.

From what I've heard from people any chicken can appear to be a roo or pullet, but there is no way to know for sure until the chicken tells you itself.

there is always hope untill you hear the crow.

Hope this helps.

Thanks ~ I will wait until I am really sure if it is a roo before I decide what to do. I am planning on keeping a blue ameraucana roo and was hoping that the splash would both be pullets. I'm not sure if I can keep more than one of these roos as I already have a roo in both other pens and am trying to limit how many I have.

I also have at least 4 olive egger (Ameraucana/cuckoo maran) roos that will be needing to be rehomed.

I have some 9 week old EE's and 3 ameraucanas from the same hatch - mine ALL have very red combs - so maybe those are two pullets since they are more pink rather than red...

I think you have 2 pullets. Some of my pullets started getting pink in their combs at 10 weeks. They kept me guessing for a while. Now that they are grown, 2 of them have more prominent pea combs than the other 2.

Everyone thought this was a pullet:

That chick picture screamed roo..look at that comb's width then add the color and don't see how anyone said pullet. He's beautiful. Then again...we posted 4 chicks last year everyone said pullets even to the one we knew was a roo...all 4 were roos

I think people just don't like to say the R word.
It's not just comb color but width of the comb and the ridges...both have all 3 ridges but the roos pop early where a pullets won't show until closer to pol so the baby roos combs are wider even before they turn color. We kept 15 chicks by this alone 1 I got a veto on by my kids they had to keep it no matter this Spring all picked from week 1 to week 3 so I wouldn't sell them all...14 are pullets. We don't use leg size or body size as being pullets since some of my biggest chicks have been huge pullets.

Edited to add the lighter one is a pullet darker is a roo..look at the width difference of the comb plus it does look like saddle feathers coming in.
