Splash/ Blue Silkie Thread

This chicks vaulted skull was the biggest and prettiest of all the chicks I saw however now I worry that it is already showing sign of being a roo does the vaulted skull starting so far back on the skull mean male it seems the non vaulted front area would perfectly fit a walnut crest does it look male? I know it too early to tell for sure also I think it's a splash but just confused over the vault and puffy head being so far back

It looks very "girly" to me! Ha! Ha!

No you can't tell at this age. If you could all these very experienced people on this site wouldn't still be wondering about theirs at hatch. SHE might be blue. I had one that was colored very much like yours and it feathered in blue. It seems to be very darkly colored around the eyes, that could be just the coloring in the pictures though. It's a very cute baby!!!

Does anyone ship started chicks to California? I'd love some blue and splash silkies!!

There are a couple silkie breeders here in California where you might be able to pick them up locally. Sheri Minkner is in Lincoln (above Sacramento). I've gotten hatching eggs and chicks from her but I'm not sure if she ships them. She has all ages and several Blue/Black/Splash breeding pens.

You could also put a "wanted" ad on the forum auction to find some started chicks.

If you want to buy hatching eggs, there are MANY great silkie breeders that ship everywhere.............and it's SO much fun hatching your own babies. Here our my first babies (several incubations ago.............)

I'm newly into Silkies. I have two blues that I am growing out. One is a nice uniform shade of slate blue all over. The other (pictures 1 & 2) has developed some gold on its chest and neck. What is this? sorry for the bad photo angles but I was trying to get the chest area. This bird is 3.5 months old. I also have a blue partridge which is very different from this bird. This doesn't look like partridge at all; just gold, no lacing/barring.

I

My other blue (2.5 months old). Nice uniform shade.
