Splash/ Blue Silkie Thread

artistazalea- no, splash coloring does not necessarily mean small crests. One of my splash hens has a more round, modest crest, but its still impressive. The other has a very large bonnet crest. There are pictures of both of them somewhere earlier in this thread. Crest size depends on quality, no matter the color. I've seen whites, blacks and birds of all other colors with some pretty pitiful looking crests!

These are my little loves! The splash is Ladybug and the blue is Luna (hoping they're girls!). They are 4 months old and I've been trimming their hats and beards so they can see better (Luna is in need of a trim in this picture) They are both affectionate and friendly and they are my favorite chickens of the flock.

I'm wondering the same thing. I have a splash hen that is almost completely white. I need a good blue roo but I'm hoping one of my sizzle offspring eventually gives me a frizzled blue roo to pair with her...

At least with BLRW, folks enhance the 'blue' by using a black roo. Too many blues tend to lighten the color over generations. I would imagine that the same happens with silkies since it is still the BB Bb bb gene.

They are so pretty. I have a splash roo and a black hen and they produced 2 blue babies that are the age of yours now. They are so sweet!!

Our lastest hatch. 8/18 eggs hatched, not ideal, but better than last year. We have 6 splash and 2 possible blues.

Black isn't an option, my roo is splash and hens are a blue and a splash. I am not sure if the will be blue or a darker splash color. I am waiting on feathers to come in to tell on them.
