We just rescued some chicks today, people had put them at the side of the road in a small container. Luckily someone else took them home and decided to find a good home for them.
That`s how they came to live with us and our other four hens.
They are about 6 weeks old and supercute, sweet chicks.
But what breed are they?
Do they look familiar to anyone?

They look like Lakenvelder chicks. A rare breed.

So glad someone found them. This kind of thing makes my blood boil.

Thank you for your feedback!
I`m so curious to see how they grow out.
Not that it matters, they are supersweet anyways.
Maybe I should provide them with some extra warmth then, if they look younger.
i did put them in a little barn overnight, where it is much warmer overnight.
At night it gets pretty cold still where I live, between 6-10C (sorry I don`t know what that is in F).

And it makes me furious too, I`m so glad the people that took them, decided to put them on a board in our area for chickenowners, they saved them, but couldn`t keep them.

P.S Excuse my mistakes, I`m not a native english speaker :-)

They look like they are in that 'awkward' stage where they are losing and growing feathers and 6-10C is 42-50F degrees. So I would give them a little more heat so they can cuddle up. Just to ensure they can properly digest, and help their immune systems form as they have been through quite a lot.

Yes, I`ve just fetched my radiant chick brooder heater from the attic.
They did fine last night, temperature didn`t drop under 12C and in the shed it`s even warmer, since the shed`s in the sun all day and stays warmer at night with the door closed.
But tonight temperatures will drop to 6C, so will place the radiant brooder for them tonight.

I`ve been looking at some pics and do believe they might be lakenvelders indeed.
They actually aren`t that rare here in the Netherlands, so it`s very possible.
I had no idea they looked splash as chicks 😂

They are very sweet and will sit on your hand and eat out of it.
My son had a good cuddle with them this morning :)
