As a SUPER newby to chicken genetics, what phenotype would I get with a splash Marans roo over CCL hens? Offspring color? I am assuming eggs would be olive out of a hen, but am I wrong?

Thanks in advance!!!!

Splash or Splash Copper? Either would be dominant over the partridge pattern of the Legbar. All chicks should inherit a Blue gene. Only the males will inherit barring. All chicks should be carrying a Cream gene, but since it's recessive, none will express it. Odds are good for olive eggs, but the genes for brown coating are very complicated and don't always inherit in a predictable manner.

You got a novice here... Is there a difference between a splash marans and splash copper marans?

In any case, they clutch was supposed to be a blue copper marans batch, but I ended up with two splash chicks, one male, one female (three blue pullets and tow blue cockerels). I have a small number (4) crested cream legbars, and was curious what the offspring would get me. So the offspring would be auto sexing? These would be culled for sex, and the pullets kept personally....

So, to understand you, the females would be splash-y?

And no, not autosexing. The chicks would be sexlinked. Autosexing breeds true. Sexlinking is a first generation thing only. You will not get any Splash chicks, but they will all be Blue, regardless of gender.

That is what I thought. He, and one female, are splash. I am aware how this will affect the other Marans, but am curious about the cross with the CCLs. Thanks for confirming that :D

So the F1 babies would be auto sexing and splash-y?

Thank you for helping me :)

So blue babies. The males would be barred. Could they be sexed by color at hatch?
