splash silkies, what do I breed to get them????

I have many silkies. If I breed a black female and a white male, I will get splash chickens, right?? If I breed a black male with a white female, will I get splash chickens, right?? I just want to know how to get splash silkies! thanks

Nope No Splash with those. You can get splash from Blues, Blacks and of course Splash. Not good at explaining genetic's but there are a few others on here I'm sure will come in and tell ya all about it.

You can get Splash from:

Blue x Blue = Splash (25% will be splash offspring)

Splash x Splash = 100% Splash

No you can not get Splash from the colors that you have. With the colors that you have, you should only breed the Black to Black, White to White and Buff to Buff.

You can also breed Splash to Blue and the percentage is 50/50

What happens when you breed buff to white or partridge to blue, etc? If it's not the same color and not a compatable color?

If your white is hiding blue or splash, it could work. The only way to find out is to test mate the black to the white and see what you get. Unless you know the history of your whites.

Wow, I guess I don't know much. I always thought the splashes were created by black mixed with white or buff. I had no idea that splash was its own thing. Back to the drawing board.
