People breed for splash, but I think they're mainly around as a by-product of breeding blues. I don't think you can usually show splash birds, most breeds just have the blue color approved for showing (I think). As blisschick said, they have two "blue" feather genes, so breeding a splash with a black bird will give you all blues, but breeding blues with blues will give you some splash and black as well as blue.
Hens go broody when you don’t want them to… and won’t go broody when you do.
