This is the first clutch I have ever hatched. They are being parent raised and so I didn’t notice any issues until I went out to clean the box. At first their legs looked a little bit off but I decided to see if I could find any more information on what they were supposed to look like. When I checked a day later they all sensed to be sitting okay and I left it and just checked every day to see any changes. It wasn’t until today when I was cleaning the box out again that I noticed one of them In particular seems to have its legs spread out all the time. Even what I picked it up to clear it’s feet of any poop it stayed spread. I didn’t want to hurt it but trying to force its legs under its body and thought I’d seek opinions. Fo they have splayed legs and if so what is the best possible treatment option. I’ve heard of lots of methods I’m just not sure which way to go. I also wanted to know if I do need to splint, does the chick then have to be hand raised or would mum and dad still care for it. Thanks in advance

I do chickens. Use a pipe cleaner and wrap it around the legs to hold them together. like this...

Idk about mom taking care of it though.

My baby chick looks like it is doing a split. I hold it up and his appetite is good and drinks water. Hatched from an incubator. What do I do?

This is what the baby chicks legs do.

Does the leg seem weak or floppy? The straight back leg like that could be a slipped tendon. Hold the chick in one hand, with the other hand use the thumb and index finger to gently hold the leg on either side of the hock. Holding the hock gently like a pencil between your fingers, roll it like you’re rolling a pencil between your fingers, very gently. If the tendon has slipped, you will feel it snap back into place. Once it’s in place, you can try wrapping it, but it will probably slip again and again for life.
