Splayed Legs?????

okay then, i'll take off the bandaids off the other chicks... like i said, they've been using them since saturday... they just never kicked them off... and no they aren't feather legged...

the scrungy/rubberband thing is pretty smart though...

sadly my poor lil chick didnt make it..... i dont know if it was the stress of putting the banaid on it or if there was more that i didnt know or notice.... the other 4 are doing well.... they werent supposed to hatch till tues and i have more eggs in the bator from the same batch.... should i call it a day? i dont hear any chirping or movement in the eggs when i put water in the bator.....

So sorry about the chick. You did everything right, sometimes it's just not meant to be.

Are you saying the other eggs aren't due until NEXT Tuesday? If that's the case you wouldn't really see movement or peeping.

the eggs were due yesterday and haven't hatched...? i gave my eggs 25 days, but none ended up hatching after day 23... you never know...

sorry about your chickies...

i took the bandaid off of my chicks and they are walking, but they are a bit bow legged... i don't know if i should leave them alone or put it again...

I just had a Lil banty born with splayed legs...after 24 hours it still didn't stand on its on and was scooting around on its butt...so I tried the yarn tied around its legs and it did really good but it end up stretching as I tied it.( its really hard to tie knots on a tiny yarn sting on a tiny banties leg!) So I came up with this idea...when we have different breeds born in the bator we have to have a way to tell them apart so we use the small colored zip ties...very carefully I might add as to not get them tight to hurt their legs but tight enough as to not slip over their foot...but before I put them on the chick I tied the yarn to each zip tie..so it kinda looks like handcuffs...then slipped them on each foot and tighten to where it wouldn't come off the foot. Now the Lil banty is walking around good! So I will leave that on it for acouple of days and then take it off with a pair of big toe nail clippers and take care to not accidentally clip a leg or toe...hopefully (it) (he/she) can walk without anymore hobbled assistance...
