Split silkies?

I’m looking at a chart for breeding sex-linked silkies and most of the roosters will be “split”? I’m new to silkie genetics. Can I tell if a silkie is a split when they’re chicks?

I have mauve rooster with chocolate, a splash, and a black hen. I have sex linked chicks but I ignore it. I'd rather have them sold straight run.

It is very hard to know, especially what's going to be a splash or not. My chocolate chicks could be either straight run or pullets depending which hen laid their eggs. Nope, can't tell.

The only absolute ones of mine are the blue chicks are cockerels.

What colors did you need then as that's got the sex-linked combos on there for most of them.

With a blue rooster and a splash hen, you'd get 50% blue and 50% splash. Just straight run.

If you got a chocolate hen, you'd get Blue and Black pullets, Blue and Black cockerels split Chocolate, but no way to know which is which. It's just the bonus if you wind up with a rooster, you'd know it's split to chocolate.

A blue and a splash will not make sex links. You would need a barred silkie hen to make blue sexlinks if you're using your splash male, but the coloring will make it pretty hard to see any headspots on the males
