Can someone tell me if this is split wing on my Paint Silkie rooster and Cuckoo Silkie rooster? I feel like they kinda droop their wings a bit.

Don't know if it's split wing or not. I look from the underneath on mine.

How old are they? Most mine are still short but coming in by 6 months or so.

But to me holding the wings low wouldn't have anything to do with split wing but maybe more of a personal stance issue or maybe they were hot.

Yay for the paints! :wee

How do you tell from underneath if it is or not?

I'm trying to breed Paints and will be sad to let him go if so :(

I also have and am considering breeding paints.

I have to say, it's great to see someone on the look out for faults instead of just breeding any cruddy bird! :highfive:

Never even thought about looking for it in Silkies.

I ask age because it's my understanding that feather doesn't come in too early. I don't start checking mine until 6 months.

Yes, I am definitely trying to improve the breed/color in Paints and Cuckoos even though they are considered "project colors." :)

I just ended up rehoming them together as "pet quality" only and educated the nice old man on split wing and not to breed them. He seemed nice enough and wasn't interested in breeding (that's why he took both of them together) so I trust him. :)

They are 5/6 months old. I'll have to check records to verify but I think that was their mature feathers. Unfortunately some of the other silkies I also got from this breeder were "pet quality" as well with leakage and such. I ended up with all roosters with issues except for one so I am just not going to use any stock from them. :/ ugh..you live and you learn.

Can I shoot you a message about Paints? :)
