When is the farthest date back safe to buy for chicken feed?

Typically our TSC store sells feed made/produced within the last 2 months and we’ve never had a problem.

Recently no shipments came into the store for almost two weeks.
When we came in there was a shelf full of feed and when we got home and opened it immediately it smelled like toxic plastics. Made my nose burn it was so bad.
We checked the manufacture date and it was January 02 2021 and today it’s May 05 2022

My question is what is the safest and how far back can manufacture date be to be safe ?

That's bad feed, both because it smells bad, and because it's way too old! Take it back, complain LOUDLY, and call the feed manufacturer. Post bad reviews?! This is so very unacceptable!
Somebody goofed big time here.
And ALWAYS check the mill date on each bag before purchasing it!
There should be something else available that's okay to feed, and/ or hit another store.

and when you call the feed Mfg, let them know that you believe the problem is not with them, but with their vendor's inventory management!

Hopefully, they will reject the RMA request, and hold TSC responsible for their failure to adhere to basic FIFO. First In - First Out.

While I of course agree about the importance of fresh feed and the return of bad-smelling, spoiled feed,

Do remember that we are suffering supply shortages and that the local stores have no control over what actually arrives on the trucks.

I work in a grocery store and this has been a problem for over a year now. We order things but don't get them. Then customers get angry at us.

You may have to look into growing your own if possible or finding some kind of alternative. I think there is a thread here somewhere where they discuss options.
