Spontaneous crested gene?

Can the crest gene be spontaneous? I bred a lavender Marans x cuckoo marans hen and it has a crest! Wild! I’ll try to catch a picture but it’s out free ranging.

Following! I had a Runner duck with a small crest that had two normal parents, and though she was bred with her brothers it wasn’t passed on to her offspring. I’m curious to hear about your situation!

I would blame it on something getting in the breeding coop but I don’t have any crested birds!

Do you have pictures of the parents? Did you get any of the possible mothers of this chick recently?

Regularly, the crested gene is incompletely dominant.
